God’s love for us is at the heart of the gospel. Our love for God will show a love for people. By having a heartfelt desire to build and encourage others, we can reflect Jesus at work in our lives by putting others before our wants and needs.
‘Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others before yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.’ Philippians 2:3
When we misinterpret the true meaning of love, we can find it extremely difficult to love others. Love is often thought to be a mere emotional response which is based on feelings. However, feelings can change, and we serve a Heavenly Father who never changes and always remains the same. (Hebrews 13:8)
‘Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.’ Ephesians 5:1
We should take note of how God does not command us to feel love towards others, but make this an important part of how we live our lives. During these challenging and difficult times, it is important that we remember how much God loves us and we are led by His love.
